Close Contact (Body Armor #3)
Lori Foster
from Harlequin

Theres no resisting a desire like this...

MMA fighter Miles Dartmans casual arrangement with personal shopper Maxi Nevar would be many mens fantasy. She seeks him out, they have mindblowing sex, she leaves. Rinse, repeat. Yet lately, Miles wants more. And when Maxi requests his services via the Body Armor security agency, hes ready to finally break through her defensesand protect her day and night.

Receiving a large inheritance has brought chaos and uncertainty into Maxis life. Her ex has resurfaced, along with lots of former friends, and someone is making mysterious threats. Then theres Miles, who doesnt ask for anythingexcept her trust. Pleasure is easy. Now Maxi has to give her heart as well as her bodyor risk losing a man who could be everything she needs.

Grinning, Miles said, I never pictured you on a farm dealing with a herd of cats and raccoons.

She waved a hand down at her hideous outfit. Yeah, I never pictured it either.

Actually, you look cute.

Her incredulous gaze shot to his, but he didnt notice as he wrestled the lid off the barrel. He managed it a whole lot easier than she usually did, but then, he was made of muscle.

Cats had followed them in, and now more gathered as he opened their food source. Meows filled the air. It was tough to move with so many animals twining around their legs.

After he almost tripped, Miles said, Impatient, arent they?

Im late.

What time do you usually feed them?

By seven thirty or so at the latest. Generally I feed them, then get my coffee and sit on the porch to enjoy the morning before I get started on chores.

Somehow, that doesnt sound awful.

No, she agreed. It was actually a nice routine. If it werent for so many different things conspiring against her, shed be loving life right about now.

Several of the cats were trying to stretch up to the top of the barrel. Smiling, Maxi pointed to the long metal channel against the wall behind the barrel. I use the large scoop inside to fill that trough.

He laughed. A trough for cats.

Hey, it was the only thing I could think of to get them all fed at the same time.

Youre resourceful.

Was that two compliments in a row? Maybe he wasnt as angry as hed seemed. More likely, it was his compassionate nature trying to make her more at ease.

Butshe couldnt be the only one feeling the sexual tension. Around Miles, it hit her like a tsunami. Even under the awful circumstances, she wasnt immune to his appeal. In fact, because of everything shed just gone through, she felt even more drawn to him and his strength.

Watching as he loaded the scoop, she said, Its actually a pig trough, but when you see them eating... well, lets just say it fits.

The cats carried on as if they hadnt eaten in days, instead of just being late for breakfast. By the time Miles filled the trough, the cats had lined up side by side and were devouring their chow.

That has to be half of a bag right there.

I buy in bulk, she said. I have to store the extra bags in the house, though, or the raccoons

Throw a party? Miles grinned down at her.

They do!

He laughed, but slowly, as his gaze roamed her face, the grin faded. He removed a dried weed from her hair, tucked a wayward lock behind her ear, then brushed his thumb over her cheek. He leaned toward her.

Her toes curled in the rubber boots. God, shed missed his kiss so much, the taste of him, the feel of his firm lips and his clever tongue and

Wait. She flattened a hand to his chest.

Expression enigmatic, Miles cleaned a smudge off her cheek. Youre exhausted.

Oh God. Shed freaked out over nothing.

Get a grip, Maxi.

After clearing her throat, she said, Yes, and it shows.

He flicked the end of her nose. You still look cute.

Hed said it again! Frazzled from the mixed signals, she propped her hands on her hips. Youre either super horny or just trying to make me feel better.

How about a little of both?

Top 5 Fun Facts About Christmastime Cowboy by Maisey Yates + Giveaway (US/Can)

Christmastime Cowboy (Copper Ridge #10)
Maisey Yates
from HQN Books // Harlequin

It's Christmas in Copper Ridge, and love is waiting to be unwrapped...

Falling for a bad boy once is forgivable. Twice would just be foolish. When Sabrina Leighton first offered her teenage innocence to gorgeous, tattooed Liam Donnelly, he humiliated her, then left town. The hurt still lingers. But so does that crazy spark. And if they have to work together to set up her family winery's new tasting room by Christmas, why not work him out of her system with a sizzling affair?

Thirteen years ago, Liam's boss at the winery offered him a bribeleave his teenage daughter alone and get a full ride at college. Convinced he wasn't good enough for Sabrina, Liam took it. Now he's back, as wealthy as sin and with a heart as cold as the Oregon snow. Or so he keeps telling himself. Because the girl he vowed to stay away from has become the only woman he needs, and this Christmas could be just the beginning of a lifetime together...

Top 5 Fun Tidbits About Christmastime Cowboy

  1. Liam Donnelly was nobodys favorite. Thats the first line, and it hit me when I wrote it that Liam definitely feels like hes no ones favorite. And that was when I knew the whole point of his story was to find that person. The woman who would make sure he knew he was her favorite. I knew from the beginning of this quartet that Sabrina was that woman.
  2. The past four books in the Copper Ridge series have been about the Donnelly brothers. They all have the same father, but they have three different mothers between them. Liam, the hero of Christmastime Cowboy and Alex, from Wild Ride Cowboy are the only two brothers who were raised in the same household. But even they have two different childhood experiences. I wanted to save Liam for last, because when you read Alexs book you THINK you know what their life was like. But Liam has secrets he hasnt shared with anyone about the way he was treated by his mother. I liked the idea of exploring how the same parent can treat two children in totally different ways.
  3. Copper Ridge at Christmas is based on Jacksonville, Oregons Victorian Christmas. There are costumed carolers, chestnuts roasting, and always a horse-drawn wagon and hot cider. Its a fond memory of mine and incorporating it into the book was fun.
  4. The idea for Grassroots winery also came from my hometown. Oregon is, depending on who you ask, the new Napa. Vineyards are everywhere, and I saw a magazine article about women in Oregon breaking the glass-winery-ceiling, which is where I got the idea to have a female run winery. (There will be more on the winery coming in my new series, Gold Valley, too.)
  5. I dont drink wine. In fact, I hate the taste of it. I actually cant stand the smell or taste of any alcohol. (Some advanced sensory issue? Who can say.) Which made the wine and cheese tasting scene in Christmastime Cowboy interesting to say the least. Especially since its a sexy scene! It required googling, and questioning of my husband, who does like wine.

Top 10 Secrets About Little Broken Things by Nicole Baart + Giveaway (US only)

Little Broken Things
Nicole Baart
from Atria Books (Simon & Schuster)

An engrossing and suspenseful novel for fans of Liane Moriarty and Amy Hatvany about an affluent suburban family whose carefully constructed facade starts to come apart with the unexpected arrival of an endangered young girl.

I have something for you. When Quinn Cruz receives that cryptic text message from her older sister Nora, she doesnt think much of it. They havent seen each other in nearly a year and thanks to Noras fierce aloofness, their relationship consists mostly of infrequent phone calls and an occasional email or text. But when a haunted Nora shows up at the lake near Quinn's house just hours later, a chain reaction is set into motion that will change both of their lives forever.

Noras something is more shocking than Quinn could have ever imagined: a little girl, cowering, wide-eyed, and tight-lipped. Nora hands her over to Quinn with instructions to keep her safe, and not to utter a word about the child to anyone, especially not their buttoned-up mother who seems determined to pretend everything is perfect. But before Quinn can ask even one of the million questions swirling around her head, Nora disappears, and Quinn finds herself the unlikely caretaker of a girl introduced simply as Lucy.

While Quinn struggles to honor her sisters desperate request and care for the lost, scared Lucy, she fears that Nora may have gotten involved in something way over her headsomething that will threaten them all. But Quinns worries are nothing compared to the firestorm that Nora is facing. Its a matter of life and death, of family and freedom, and ultimately, about the lengths a woman will go to protect the ones she loves.

Secrets I'm Spilling About Little Broken Things

  1. I cried writing the opening scene. It was so real, so visceral to me that I sobbed all the way through it. Its still difficult for me to read because it embodies one of my deepest fears. Want to know what it is? Guess youll have to read to find out ;)
  2. Liz, the matriarch of the Sanford family, was not originally supposed to have a voice in Little Broken Things. But one day as I was writing suddenly she appeared on the page, demanding her own perspective. I let her because Im kind of a pushover that way.
  3. I love my husband to bits and pieces, but Walker is my book crush. Im Team Walker all the way.
  4. Im mildly obsessed with sea glass and had so much fun weaving it in to the pages of Little Broken Things. It was a dream come true to work with ethically sourced, fair-trade jewelry company ViBella to design two necklaces that complement the book.
  5. While I was writing Little Broken Things I woke up in the middle of the night one night to a strange sound. Our windows were open, and as I became more alert I realized that I could smell smoke. A building near our house was engulfed in flames, and my husband and I called 9-1-1 and then ran outside in our pajamas to make sure no one was hurt. This experience may or may not have made it onto the pages of Little Broken Things.
  6. Little Broken Things was not the original title of my book. I submitted it under the title: All We Ever Wanted. Nobody liked it. (Fun fact: All We Ever Wanted is the title of Emily Giffins new book!)
  7. I drank copious amounts of Good Earth Sweet & Spicy tea while writing this book. In fact, I drank so much that my local grocery store ran out and they have never stocked it again. Im having serious withdrawal. Seriously. Somebody help.
  8. My readers named the child in Little Broken Things. They nominated different names and then voted. I loved the result!
  9. I loved the cover of Little Broken Things the first time I saw it. This has not always been the case with my books. It was so fun to see it and just know it was perfect.
  10. Little Broken Things is my favorite book to date. Dont tell my other book babies, theyll cry. But sometimes its okay to play favorites ;)

Emily Littlejohn
Minotaur Books // St. Martin's Press

In Emily Littlejohn's follow-up to her acclaimed debut Inherit the Bones, a twisted killer stalks his prey in the dead of winter.

On a cold dark night in February, as a blizzard shrieks through Cedar Valley, police officer and new mother Gemma Monroe responds to an anonymous report of a prowler at the local private high school, The Valley Academy. In her idyllic Colorado small town, Gemma expects the call was just a prank by a bored teenager.

But there in the snow lies the savaged body of a man whose presence in town was meant to be a secret. And a disturbing message left by his killer promises more death to come.

This is only the beginning...

Nothing is as it seems in Cedar Valley and stories, both fact and fiction, ensnare Gemma as her investigation moves from the halls of an elite academy to the forests that surround Cedar Valley.

Exclusive Sneak Peek: Seeds of Revenge by Wendy Tyson + Giveaway (US/Can)

Seeds of Revenge (A Greenhouse Mystery #3)
Wendy Tyson
from Henery Press

It may be the holiday season, but the mood in Winsome is anything but jolly...

Megan Sawyer is determined to farm year-round. Shes braving a December snowstorm after pitching her greenhouse greens to Philadelphia chefs when she sees a stranger stranded on the side of the road. Its Merry Chances niece Becca, whos headed to Winsome to sell her love potions at holiday eventsor so she thinks.

Merry has an ulterior motive in inviting her niece to Winsome, but Merrys plan to reunite Becca with her estranged father goes awry when Beccas father turns up dead. Megan soon realizes that Becca was not the only person in Winsome who despised her father. When Megans aunt, the famous mystery author, is implicated through her novels, things become personal. Megan must follow the literary clues while sifting through the victims sordid past, but can she uncover the truth before someone else in Winsome is murdered?

Merry Chances statuesque four square was alit with white Christmas lightsColonial candles in the windows, braids of lights outlining the window sills and doorways, blinking lights woven into wreaths, and miniscule bulbs incorporated into a doe and two fawns that adorned the front lawn. As Megan pulled up alongside the road in front of the home, she saw with relief that Merry was home. In fact, she was standing on her porch talking with a man.

Becca gave Megan a quick hug. Thank you, she sang. You saved me quite a trek.

Megan climbed out of the truck and pulled Beccas suitcase from the bed while Becca unloaded her boxes of love potions. Merry had noticed them, and she turned her attention toward her niece.

Aunt Merry! Becca called. Hello!

She hurried toward her aunt and stopped short just feet from the landing, Megan trailing behind. The man had turned to look at them so that his face was visible. He was older, mid- to late-sixties, but his resemblance to Becca was unmistakable. Strong features: a square chin, a broad nose, unnaturally black hair receding ever-so-slightly into his scalp line. He wore a tailored coat and carried an expensive bag. His bearing screamed money and privilege.

The man regarded Becca with an evenness that seemed unnerving, while Beccas whole body shook with emotion.

No one acknowledged Megan. She watched the scene unfold the way a bystander witnesses a car crash. Helpless and transfixed.

No! Why is he here? Aunt Merry, why the hell is he here? To him, I told you I never want to see you again. Never. Do you know what that means? You brought him here on purpose.

Rebecca, calm down, Merry snapped. Youre jumping to conclusions.

Hes here, Im here. What conclusions am I jumping to?

The man said, Actually, I was just leaving.

That might be best, Paul. Merry glanced at her niece, lips pursed into a frown. Lets give Becca some time to calm down.

Paul nodded curtly. Very well. Thank you, Merry. You know where Ill be. He walked down the steps, past Becca, without so much as another glance in her direction. Becca placed her bags on the ground. With a sudden rush, she darted toward the man in the slippery snow, hands outstretched. She would have pushed him had he not reacted with laser speed. He grabbed her wrists and held them out in front of her. Merry took a step forward. Megan dropped the suitcase, ready to intervene.

But Paul and Becca just stood there, staring at one another. Finally, Becca said, Youre hurting me.

He looked down at his hands, wrapped like bindings around her wrists, and let go. Im sorry. He backed away, his eyes unwavering in their focus on Beccas face.

He climbed into his cara silver Mercedesand Becca spat at the ground near his tire. She rubbed her wrists, shoulders hunched.

Becca watched as he pulled away, his rear tires slipping in the deep snow. Why would you invite him here, Aunt Merry?

I wasnt expecting you until tomorrow.

Hes staying here. He made that pretty clear.

He wanted to see you. He wants to make amends.

I will never forgive him. You of all people should understand that.

Merry regarded her niece with a long, sad stare. Finally she said, Megan, I assume Beccas car had some difficulty in the snow? When Megan nodded, she said, Thank you for bringing her.

It was a dismissal, at odds with Merrys normally saccharine insistence on hospitality. Megan placed Beccas suitcase on her porch and and returned to her truck. She watched as Becca followed her aunt obediently inside. With the front door shut, the visage of the house returned to its festive faade.

A faade, indeed, Megan thought as she pulled away. That was all it seemed to be. She wondered what conversation was going on inside.

The Austen Escape Katherine Reay from Thomas Nelson ( HarperCollins ) Falling into the past will change their futures forever. Mary Davies ...

Top 10 Things You Didnt Know About The Austen Escape by Katherine Reay + Giveaway (US only)

The Austen Escape
Katherine Reay
from Thomas Nelson (HarperCollins)

Falling into the past will change their futures forever.

Mary Davies finds safety in her ordered and productive life. Working as an engineer, she genuinely enjoys her job and her colleaguesparticularly a certain adorable and intelligent consultant. But something is missing. When Marys estranged childhood friend, Isabel Dwyer offers her a two-week stay in a gorgeous manor house in England, she reluctantly agrees in hopes that the holiday will shake up her quiet life in just the right ways.

But Mary gets more than she bargained for when Isabel loses her memory and fully believes she lives in Jane Austens Bath. While Isabel rests and delights in the leisure of a Regency lady, attended by other costume-clad guests, Mary uncovers startling truths about their shared past, who Isabel was, who she seems to be, and the man who now stands between them.

Outings are undertaken, misunderstandings arise, and dancing ensues as this company of clever, well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation, work out their lives and hearts.

Things You Didn't Know About The Austen Escape and Me

  1. The Austen Escape is not a retelling of any Austen novel. Its a contemporary story that alludes to all her famous novels and draws from them, much like a beautiful buffet.
  2. Setting is one of my primary characters so I must know it well. This story takes place in Austin, Texas (...escaping from Austen and Austin) and Bath, England. I called Texas home for nine years and England home for two.
  3. The heroines names are plays on Austen heroineswith a twist. Mary because Austen didnt much like Marys. Combing through her books, I could not find a single Mary that Austen portrayed in a positive light. Im rehabilitating the name. ? Isabel is a direct allusion to Isabella Thorpe from Northanger Abbey, who is equally beautiful and manipulative.
  4. The idea for Braithwaite Houses Regency costumed holiday came from two sources: Austens Mansfield Park and Shakespeares The Merchant of Venice. In both stories, the hiding or play-acting allowed the characters the freedom to express and then become their true selves.
  5. Spoiler alert: In the original ending, Mary left Austin for her job offer in Boston. I changed this ending in final edits because staying in Austin felt stronger. Mary no longer needs to escape. While the move made sense in the early drafts, it began to feel that rather than running to something, Mary was running from something. I wanted more agency for her and her story.
  6. The only book Ive ever named myself was Dear Mr. Knightley. A very creative duo of good friends came up with The Austen Escape with me in a Facebook chatthat is where the title for The Bronte Plot originated as well. The name points to the extensive Austen allusions, but also to the idea of escapism and the delights and dangers it holds.
  7. My favorite character in The Austen Escape is Helene Mueller. I loved the commonsense wisdom she brings in her unlikely package. She is loosely paralleled in my mind with The Bronte Plots Helen Carmichael, who again is loosely related to my late grandmother and a dear older friend. That said, no character is directly based on a real person I know or have ever known.
  8. Although I allude to tons of classic literature in my books, I primarily read contemporary fiction. That doesnt mean I dont read historical fiction, and enjoy it, for book clubs etc., but I prefer contemporary stories that wrestle with how we deal with problems and emotions today. In fact, most of the classics were cutting-edge contemporary stories when written.
  9. Although I primarily focus on female friendships (sisters in Lizzy and Jane, friends in The Bronte Plot, best friends in The Austen Escape) all my novels hold a romantic thread. This rule came from my first agent, and one of the best men Ive ever known, who once said, Never leave the cherry off a good sundae. In his honor, I follow his advice.
  10. This is my fifth novel, and Ive loved writing each and every one. Although they have similar covers, my novels do not form a series. Each story stands alone, and Ive relished digging into the differing voices, lives and adventures of each heroine. In fact, Ive enjoyed it so much that my next novel boasts three heroines. More on that later...

About the Author

Katherine Reay is a writer, wife, mom, continually rehabbing runner, compulsive vacuumist and a horrific navigator...

She has enjoyed a life-long affair with the works of Jane Austen and her contemporarieswho provide constant inspiration both for writing and for life. She is the author of three previous novels, and her debut, Dear Mr. Knightley, was a 2014 Christy Award Finalist, winner of the 2014 INSPY Award for Best Debut, and winner of two Carol Awards for Best Debut and Best Contemporary.

She graduated from Northwestern University and earned an MS in Marketing from Northwestern as well. She then worked in marketing and development before returning to graduate school for a Masters of Theological Studies. Moves to Texas, England, Ireland and Washington left that degree unfinished as Katherine spent her time unpacking, raising kids, volunteering, writing, and exploring new storylines and new cities.

The Reay family (with a great sense of permanency) now resides outside Chicago, and Katherine pursues writing with more focus. She writes character-driven stories and non-fiction that focuses upon examining the past and how it influences our present experiences.

Sugarplum Way   ( Harmony Harbor #4) Debbie Mason from Forever ( Hachette // Grand Central Publishing ) Romance writer Julia Landon knows...

Exclusive Sneak Peek: Sugarplum Way by Debbie Mason + Giveaway (US/Can)

Sugarplum Way (Harmony Harbor #4)
Debbie Mason
from Forever (Hachette // Grand Central Publishing)

Romance writer Julia Landon knows how to write a happily-ever-after. Creating one for herself is a whole different story. But after a surprisingand surprisingly passionatekiss under the mistletoe at Harmony Harbors holiday party last year, Julia thought she might have finally found her very own chance at true love. Until she learns her Mr. Tall, Dark, and Broodingly Handsome has sworn off relationships. Well, if she cant have him in real life, Julia knows just how to get the next best thing...

Aidans only priority is to be the best single dad ever. And this year, he plans to make the holidays magical for his little girl, Ella Rose. But visions of stolen kisses under the mistletoe keep dancing in his head, and when he finds out Julia has written him into her latest novel, he cant help imagining the possibilities of a future together. Little does he know, though, Julia has been keeping a secret that threatens all their dreams. Luckily, 'tis the season for a little Christmas magic.

I was joking with you before but this is starting to sound serious, big brother. Are you sure youre ready for a relationship? Harper did a number on

Aidan cut Liam off. Im only going to say this once so listen up. Im not dating Julia and nor am I interested in dating her. Were not even friends, more like acquaintances.

His father, whod been drinking and grinning while his brothers razzed him, lowered his thermos of hot chocolate. Thats not how it looked at Jolly Rogers this morning, son. You seemed to know quite a lot about her. Shes a sweet girl. I wouldnt want to see her hurt. So maybe you should stop sending out mixed signals. Whats she supposed to think when you put your arm around her, play footsie under the table, and act like youre jealous of Paul?

Jealous of Benson? How did his dad come to that conclusion? Didnt matter one way or another, his father had done it now. Aidan could tell by the expressions on his brothers faces that he could declare his innocence and non-feelings all he wanted and they wouldnt believe a single word he said.

If they werent married, that wouldnt worry him much, but they were. And they told their wives everything and their wives talked too much and soon everyone at the manor would know, including his matchmaking grandmother.

Hate to tell you, but it looks like the chief is making time with your girl, bro.

If he knew what was good for him, hed ignore Liam. But curiosity got the better of him and Aidan looked to where hed last seen Julia. Benson had his arm around her and appeared to be educating her on the finer details of megaphone use. His boss was a condescending jerk. Its a wonder Julia didnt...

Maggie Stewart, paging Maggie Stewart, Julia yelled into the megaphone that was positioned a couple of inches from Bensons ear.

Aidan laughed when the man reared back.

His brothers stared at him, and his father smiled. Its good to hear you laugh, son. Its been a while. Take it from your old man, you find a woman who can make you laugh, you hang onto her.

There was nothing he could say to that because hed seen the truth of it with his own eyes. Hed grown up in a home filled with love and laughter. His marital home hadnt been remotely close to the same. Maybe because he and Harper were both driven, serious, type-A personalities. Well, he didnt have any worries on that count with Santas little helper. Julia was as far from... What the hell? He scrubbed his hands over his face. They were sucking him into their fantasy.

I think November is the perfect time the begin; it's early enough to get your gift shopping done without hitting the holiday frenzy, but not so soon that you're stressed out too early. I got a laugh a couple weeks ago seeing all the Christmas decorations up for sale at Target before it was even Halloween!
